About Roadway Tracking
YRC Freight’s roots can be traced back to 1924, when A.J. Harrell, an Oklahoma City businessman, founded the Yellow Cab Transit Company. It shortened its name to the Yellow Transit Company in 1926.
The Roche brothers founded Roadway Express in December 1930, making trucking history in Akron, Ohio.
Since it was started, this route has been constantly changing to match the founders’ vision. For example, Galen Roche recognized that providers who deliver on their promises can retain customers and win new ones. If a truck was not available to pick up the garbage, he would hire a truck and handle the shipment himself.
Reimer Express Lines was founded by DS Reimer and his father Frank F. Reimer in 1952. The company’s maiden route ran between Winnipeg and Windsor, Ontario. The company’s headquarters is based in Steinbach, Manitoba where DS Reimer was raised. Since it first started operating, the trucking company has been offering east-west traffic in Canada. Customers have embraced Reimer’s faster service and focus on customer satisfaction. Reimer Express’ expansion continued and in 1969, the company became Canada-wide with coast-to-coast service.
While Yellow and Roadway grew separately over the years to become the two dominant carriers in the United States, Rymer Express became the largest public transportation company in Canada. In 1997, the expressway acquired Reimer Express, This allowed for more efficient transportation of goods between the two countries, as well as improved customer service. In 2003, the CEOs of Con-way, Inc., Menlo Worldwide Logistics, and New Penn Motor Express came together to form Yellow Roadway Corporation. The goal of the merger was to bring together back-office functions and other areas of expertise so that all three companies would remain strong and competitive in the marketplace. In 2009, we acquired YRC Inc. which helped improve communication and collaboration among employees, which resulted in a more efficient work process overall. This gave us the opportunity to offer an even greater variety of products and services to our customers.
On February 1, 2012, we took another important step, our largest operating company, YRC Inc. Changed name to YRC Freight. Our recent rebranding was more than just a new name and logo – it was a statement of our dedication to our core purpose: helping North American LTL carriers increase the reliability of their supply chains.
As of May 8, 2019, YRC Reamer will merge with YRC Freight and operate under the YRC Freight brand. We’re changing the brand name to better reflect our go-to-market strategy. To avoid any confusion for our consumers, cross-border and intra-Canadian services are now under the YRC Freight name. Even though things are changing for YRC Freight, we want to assure our North American customers that we will continue to serve them under the YRC Freight brand.
